Molly: Getting Ready For Day 1

I'm really excited to participate in the Food Stamp Challenge, but at the same time, I'm a little nervous. At first I thought this would not be a good week because I have a friend coming in from out of town Tuesday night, but then I thought, hey it would actually be perfect because it will truly challenge me. Those that live on Food Stamps don't have the luxury of saying well this week I'm just going to spend more than I can afford because they can't, so why should I. As i mentioned above and in my KLTV story I went grocery shopping today. I bought: noodles, 2 boxes of macaroni & cheese, peanut butter, bread, rice, a package of 4 chix breasts, a small personal pizza, a can of corn and a can of green beans. I spent a total of $14.05, so I still have money left over. I've decided to see what I crave later in the week. I'm a pretty plan eater, so that should not be a problem, but not having my coffee every morning will be tough. We'll see how long I make it. Tonight, I'm preparing my food for lunch tomorrow... my first day! I'm thinking noodles and butter and maybe a peanut butter sandwhich for a snack if I get stuck late. I'll let you all know :).

I have a family of 5, and we r on food stamps. My husband works, and after rent, and bills, there isn't always money left over. We live pay check to pay check. Being able to buy food once a month is difficult, and embarrasing. I have one pack of chicken left, and less than half a gallon of milk left until thursday, the day i get my food stamps. Noone understands what it feels like, to live like this. I hope that more people take this challenge on, so that they can see what it feels like to never have enough money. And for those people who do have money to buy anything they want, dont take it granted because life is not getting any easier.

Hey pizza is a luxury item! lol
I am a single mom on FS. It would be better if they gave you only so much for milk, so much for bread, so much for vegetables, so much for meats, so much for fruits and fruit juices and so much for eggs and butter. It would also help if we could buy toilet paper with it. There are a lot of holes in this system. One of which is the nutrition values for our kids.
Also if you buy the coffee now you will have it all month long. It is only that one week you go without. And if you buy instant (YUCK) you can fix just one cup a day for the rest of the month!
Anyway, good luck on your challenge. Thank you for bringing this to the attention of the general public.
